Aubrey E. Ownbey

Aubrey Ewell Ownbey, age 81, passed away peacefully October 13, 2019 at Mission McDowell Hospital in Marion, NC. He was the son of the late Ewell Britton and Mildred Padgett Ownbey and native of Rutherford County. Aubrey was a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church and served through the years in many positions including choir director, Sunday school teacher, and musician. He spent many years doing something he greatly enjoyed by playing guitar and bass guitar with various gospel quartets. He bravely faced four decades of challenges from Multiple Sclerosis but continued to live and enjoy life to the fullest. Aubrey was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Aubrey’s TV Sales and Service until retiring in 1980 due to health issues.

His memory is left to be cherished by his wife of 58 years, Judy Hill Ownbey, two sons: Joel Ownbey;  Bruce Ownbey and his wife Angie of Rutherfordton, two daughters: Lisa Brown and her husband Dale of Union Mills, NC, Lori Sutton and her husband Landon of Cartersville, GA, and seven grandchildren: Ashley Ownbey, Jessica Ownbey, Kevin Brown, Adam Brown, Zach Sutton, Jade Nix, and Tucker Sutton. The family will receive friends at Piney Knob Baptist Church from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 15, 2019.  The funeral service will be at Piney Knob Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 15, 2019 with Reverend Michael Brown and Reverend Rick Wall officiating. Interment will be at Piney Knob Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. An online guest register is available at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com.
