Harold H. Ruppe

Harold H. Ruppe, age 98, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, December 27, 2019, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home. 

He was the son of the late Hudson Ruppe and the late Alice Ruppe. Harold was a native of Rutherford County and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon. He loved farming and he enjoyed working on antique cars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Harold was assigned for duty to battery D, 950th anti-aircraft artillery battalion as a gunner on multiple quad 50 caliber machine guns. He served in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Southern Pacific, Western Pacific and Philippine Islands. Harold was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for a wound he received in combat. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by one brother, RN Ruppe, and one son, Philip Ruppe.   

He is survived by his wife of 72 years: Hovis Robbins Ruppe.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, Monday, December 30, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church.  A graveside service will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2019 with Reverend Paul Willis and Reverend Michael Sepaugh officiating. Interment will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City, 28043. McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
