Jean Tipton Carpenter 

  Peggy Jean Tipton Carpenter, 82, of Rutherfordton, N.C. died Monday, August 26, 2019 at her home. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Phin and Elizabeth Hamrick Tipton and wife of the late Clifford “Tip” Carpenter. She was the sister of the late Gaynell Roper, Vearl Daniel, Alvin Tipton and Earl Tipton.

     A member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, Jean was a beloved children’s Sunday School teacher for decades. She was also passionate about the local prison ministry, and served in leadership positions with the 096 Prison Chapel Ministry from its beginning

   Jean owned and operated a bookkeeping and tax service in Rutherfordton for more than 40 years.

    Survivors include two sons, Mark (Donna) Carpenter and Scott Carpenter, one daughter Amy Carpenter; four grandchildren, Lee Carpenter (Megan), Katie Carpenter, Nathan Beason, and Rozalyn Toney.

     The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton with Reverend Tim Marsh officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, August 30 from 6-8 p.m. at McMahan’s Funeral Home in Rutherfordton.

   Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
