Ann S. Callahan, age 83, of Spindale, died Friday, February 16, 2018, at Hospice House of Rutherford County. She was a native of Buffalo, NY and the daughter of the late Clarence Smith and the late Jennie Lautz. Ann was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America; baptised, confirmed and serving the church. She was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Medical Corps as a Hospital Corpsman. Ann loved to garden in flowers and flowering shrubs and trees. Ann was an accomplished seamstress making quilts and doing decorative sewing. Ann was active in the Girl Scouts of America, serving as a Scout leader as well as Regional Cookie Sales Manager in both Mobile, AL and Brunswick, GA. She was also involved in the Lutheran Western NC Via de Christo program serving as a servant on multiple weekend retreats. She is survived by her husband: Allen M. Callahan One Daughter: Susan Callahan of Mundelen, IL Four Sons: Michael Callahan of Amarillo, TX Scott Callahan of Seaside, OR Brian Callahan of Lakeland , FL Timothy Callahan of Monroe, NC Twelve Grandchildren Seven Great-Grandchildren The memorial service will be at the Advent Lutheran Church of Spindale at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2018 with Pastor David Hinkelman officiating.
