Betty Freeman Penson, age 90, of Rutherfordton, NC, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at The Landings of Cabarrus in Kannapolis, NC.

A native of Rutherford County, Betty was the daughter of the late Clyde and Louise Freeman. She was a member at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, and she was known as the pianist and organist when she was able to be an active member. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Penson Sr., and her brother, Ronald Freeman.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Kim Penson Guffey and husband Greg, one son, Bobby Penson Jr. and wife Jude, three grandchildren, Jessica Abernathy, AJ Guffey, and Luke Penson, and one great-grandson, Greyson Abernathy.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at the church at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
