David J. Adkins, age 74, of Forest City, NC, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.

He was the son of the late Eules Adkins Sr. and the late Bessie Wheeler Adkins. David was born in McDowell County, but lived in Rutherford County for 65 years. He worked at Stonecutters Mill for 25 years and he also worked at the Tanner Companies. David was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist Faith and he attended Mt. View Baptist Church. David loved his family dearly. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Metcalf, and Lois Cannon,  and three brothers, EG Adkins Jr., Jim Adkins, and  Wade Adkins.

One Daughter: Amy Coady, of Haslit, MI

One Son: Joel Adkins, Sr. and his wife Janea, of Forest City, NC

One Sister: Wanda Phipps, of Winston-Salem, NC

Two Brothers: Wayne Adkins, of Forest City, NC Harold Adkins, of Marshall, TX

Nine Grandchildren

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon at McMahan's Funeral Home.  The memorial service at  McMahan's Chapel will be at 12:00 Noon Thursday, December 10, 2020 with Reverend John McDaniel officiating.  The Rutherford County Honor Guard will render Military Rites for Mr. Adkins following the service on the grounds of the funeral home.
