David Daniel
"Dan" Briscoe
April 4, 1936 – September 20, 2021
David Daniel "Dan" Briscoe, age 85, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Monday, September 20, 2021, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.
He was the son of the late David and Bebe Briscoe, and a native of Rutherford County. Dan was a member of Gilkey United Methodist Church in recent years, and also a member of Southern Baptist Church. He proudly served in the U S Army in Germany. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and graduated from Appalachian State University. Dan went to work for Stonecutter Mills after college and moved up through the company for the next 43 years. He was president of Stonecutter Mills Corporation, and a member on the board of directors. He was also on the Stonecutter Foundation Board and served as a member for 22 years. He was in the Rutherfordton Spindale Jaycees for a number of years and received the God and Country award. After retiring from Stonecutter, Dan became co-owner and operator with his son David of Greene Memorial Monument Company. Dan was first married to Ramona W. Briscoe who died in 1999. In addition to his parents and Ramona, he was preceded in death by an infant brother Jimmy, and a sister, Mary Ann Anthony. Dan was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and most of all he was a Christian who loved the Lord and had the gift of service to Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Lovelace Briscoe of thirteen years, three loving daughters and one loving son; Vickie Briscoe, Renee Brinton and husband Matt, Christie B. McMahan and husband John F. McMahan II, David Briscoe and wife Nickie, three sisters, Martha Wray Thomas, Peggy Briscoe and Debbie Lynn Lineberger. Two step-daughters, Sharon L. Greene, Kellie L. Beam and husband David, one step-son, Al S. Lovelace, eight grandchildren, one great grandson; eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great grandchildren.
There will be a private, family only, funeral service to honor Dan with Reverend Jack Bridges and Reverend Bryan Cooper officiating. His daughter Renee Briscoe Brinton will deliver the eulogy. There will be a committal service on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 2:00 P. M. held in the prayer garden of Southern Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be a time after the committal service for the family to greet friends, all are welcome to attend. The family request that all attending please wear a mask. A special thanks to James Cowan, and the staff of Stonecutter, for all their support, love, and prayers for Dan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043, or Gilkey United Methodist Church; c/o Jackie Bridges, 374 Lawing Mill Rd. Union Mills, NC 28167. Interment will be at Southern Baptist Church Cemetery, McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
