Dessa Spencer Edwards, age 94, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.

She was the daughter of the late Oather, and Goldie Spencer and she was a native of Eccles, WV. Dessa's love for her family brought her so much joy. Dessa loved to cook, sew, crochet, crossword puzzles and decorate her home. Dessa was very kind, generous and loved doing things to help people. She would crochet and sew things, then enjoyed giving it as gifts to family, friends and anyone who needed something. Dessa was a very active church member first at First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, and most recently at Oak Springs Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir, reading, and gardening. Dessa had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing many jokes on family and friends. She is loved by so many and truly will be missed.

Dessa is survived by her husband, Hoyle Edwards, two daughters, Diana Jean Greathouse (Stan), and Sharon Lynn Lorber (George), one son, Lloyd David Lester (Charlene), five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Oak Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2022, with Reverend Alvin Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Baptist Cemetery, Forest City, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
