Diana Jean Greathouse

Diana Jean Greathouse, age 78, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. 

Diana was the daughter of the late Lloyd Lester and the late Dessa Lea Lester Edwards and a native of Baltimore Maryland. Diana was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Hoyle Edwards. Diana was a graduate of Patapsco High School class of 1965. She had a caring heart and compassionate spirit that showed throughout her dedicated career as an art teacher. Diana loved and collected art and stained glass. She loved the Lord and helped establish a Christian School in Maryland and was a pioneer of a new church in Maryland.

She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 61 years: Stan Greathouse, one daughter: Terri Herndon and her husband David of Duncan, SC, two grandchildren: Matthew Allan Herndon and Rebekah Lea Herndon, one brother, David Lloyd Lester and his wife Charlene, and one sister: Sharon Lorber and her husband George.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 9, 2026, at McMahan's Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow at the Rutherfordton City Cemetery. After the service the family will be gathered at Second Baptist Church's Family Life Center. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church; 191 Green Street; Rutherfordton, NC 28139 in memory of Diana. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
