Doris Humphries Hill, age 78, of Shingle Hollow, North Carolina passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2024, in her home surrounded by family .

She was the daughter of the late George and Viola Humphries and a native of Rutherford County. She was a lifelong member of Piney Knob Baptist Church and served in many capacities over the years including teaching Sunday School, working with the youth, keeping up with church history, and ordering flowers for memorial services. Doris loved her church family. She was well known for her five-flavor pound cake. Those who visited her home would always be offered a fresh slice of cake. She made cakes for friends who were sick or lost a loved one.  Doris loved the beach and enjoyed many vacations to Oak Island, North Carolina.

She was a 1964 graduate of R-S Central High School.  For over 20 years, Doris worked part time at Rutherford Jewelers and at home in her beauty salon. She volunteered as a first responder at Shingle Hollow Fire Department and was an EMT with Hickory Nut Gorge for several years. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family unconditionally.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Doris is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norris Hill and their three children: Mark Hill (Patricia), Keith Hill (Tina), and Allison Brown (Tim). They were blessed with seven grandchildren: Rachel Hill, Harrison Hill, Sarah Hill, Jacob Hill, Bella Hill, Parker Hill, and Autumn Griffey (Dylan),one great-grandson, Cooper Griffey, and two bonus grandchildren: Andrew Gao and Mandy Gao. She is survived by one brother, James Humphries (Kathy) and two nephews: Jamie (Cori) Humphries and Bryan (Andrea) Humphries.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Piney Knob Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Piney Knob Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2024, with Reverend Casey Stockton, and Reverend Michael Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Knob Baptist Church Youth Group, 1534 Piney Knob Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
