Obituary

Mack Douglas Ledbetter, known to family and friends as "Doug," passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 23, 2025. He was born on January 10, 1946, to Mack Donald Ledbetter and Helen Deck Ledbetter. His life was defined by faith, service, resilience, and a deep love for people and animals.

Doug is survived by his former wife, Sara Ledbetter; his daughter, Sharon Ledbetter; his son, Todd Ledbetter and wife Kathy; and three grandchildren, Ryan Ledbetter, Austin Ledbetter, and Kathryn Ledbetter.

Doug proudly served his country in the National Guard before transitioning to a career with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, where he served for approximately five years. Following the passing of his father, he returned to Rutherford County to take over his father's wholesale used car business, continuing a proud family legacy within the community.

Ever versatile and hardworking, Doug later operated a screen-printing business before embarking on a long and rewarding career with Duke Energy as an electrical engineer. He retired at age 62, but "retirement" simply marked the beginning of a new season of purpose and connection. He went on to enjoy working with Lowe's Home Improvement, the Rutherford Transit Authority, and developed a heartfelt ministry providing white dove releases for funerals throughout the region.

Doug openly shared his Christian faith and found deep meaning in comforting families in times of grief. He often reminded others that death is not a permanent loss, but a temporary separation, and that hope endures beyond sorrow.

He loved his family dearly, cherished his friends, and never met a stranger. Doug had a gift for storytelling and an equal gift for listening—always ready to swap a story, share a laugh, or offer encouragement.

His family would like to thank his many caregivers for their loving care over the years. Doug's celebration of life will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00P.M at the church.

Doug's life was a testament to service, kindness, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
