Emma Lawter Hicks, age 89 of Mill Spring, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Joseph Hill and the late Hessie Mae Vess Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband William John Lawter and her second husband William Avery Hicks; also three brothers Boyd, Wray and Wayne Hill; one sister Dorothy Nanney. Emma was a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a current member of Big Level Baptist Church and held different offices in each church. Hill of Gilkey, NC Three Sisters: Edith Wilkerson of Glenwood, NC Pauline Flynn and her husband Paul of Cleveland, GA Lorrine Flack and her husband Doug of Rutherfordton Sister-in-law: Madge Hill Three grandchildren: Jennifer Knight, Lori Parker and Rodney Tipton Four great-grandchildren: Richard Knight, Ashley Parker, Jackson Tipton and Delaney Tipton Two great great-grandchildren: Lexon & Trey Knight The family will receive friends Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Big Level Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Orr and Reverend Paul Flynn officiating. Interment will take place at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Polk County
