Evelyn Ruth Wilkerson Conner, age 94, of Montford Cove community passed from this life to be with Jesus on December 5, 2023. Evelyn was the oldest child of Burgin and Gladys Wilkerson. She is predeceased by all her siblings, her husband, and one grandson Dustin.  She was married to Wade Conner for 62 years in Whitehouse community where they farmed and sawmilled.  She had 4 children: Gary (Angie), Mark (Lita), Jeff (Lisa), and Melanie (Tim Parton). Her grandchildren are: Eric Conner (Katie) of Colorado, Dustin Conner (with Jesus now), Aaron Conner (Taylor) of Forest  City, Paul Conner (Abby) of Maryland, Maria Conner Robinson (Justin) of Texas, Brian Conner (Becca) of SC, Claire Conner Borisuk (Caleb) of SC, Savannah Parton of Gilkey and Will Parton of Gilkey. Her great-grandchildren from Eric & Katie: Landon, Ella, and Everly;  from Aaron & Taylor: Grayson and Sutton; from Paul & Abby: Meredith, Caroline, and Wesley;  from Justin & Maria: Remy;  from Brian & Becca: Ty and Parker. Evelyn surrendered her life to Jesus Christ as a young girl and lived the rest of her life as God's servant.  She served her Lord, her husband, her children, her church, and her community. Her gift from God was singing, and she was always ready to add her strong alto voice to any kind of song.  She loved bluegrass music and hymns of praise to her Lord. Her motto was "God is good … all the time!" Evelyn worked hard as a farmer's wife, and later became a hair beautician for about 42 years at her shop on Conner Road.  She was known for her shampoo and set, plus a biscuit and sausage.  We estimate she made over 200,000 biscuits and 18,000 cakes of cornbread in her lifetime. The wonderful staff at Fairhaven Home in Bostic loved Evelyn well on the last leg of her journey here, as well as Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. All of us children are glad that Mom is with Jesus now.  She was in some pain at the end, but not now.  The Bible says, "There shall be no more death; neither sorrow, nor crying, and no more pain.  The former things are  all passed away."  Also she is now experiencing undiluted joy and love from God.  "In God's presence is fulness of joy!" Bills Creek Baptist Church is at 1475 Bills Creek Road, Lake Lure, NC. The receiving of friends will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Bill's Creek Baptist Church and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Bill's Creek Baptist Church. The interment will be up the hill in the church cemetery after the funeral service. Pastor Ron Reep and Reverend Charlie Bailey will be officiating.
