Obituary

Frank McMahan, age 92, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Monday, December 2, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late James Lester McMahan and the late Pearl Geer McMahan. He was a native of Rutherford County. He was a U S Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Aleutians Islands of Alaska. Frank graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Nashville, TN. He became a Funeral Service Licensee with the State of North Carolina in 1948. He and his brother the late Clayton McMahan founded McMahan's Funeral Home Inc. in 1953 and he dedicated his entire working life to the funeral business. He was the former president and manager of the company. Frank was a member of the Rutherfordton Lions Club for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by one brother Clayton McMahan and three sisters; Mae Carroll, Gertrude McDaniel Feiler and Grace Baynard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Charlotte Spratt McMahan. One Son: John F. McMahan II and his wife Christie. Three Grandchildren: John F. "Mackie" McMahan III, Jesse Elizabeth McMahan and Lydia Ramona McMahan. One brother-in-law Donald M. Spratt and one sister-in-law Margaret Wray McMahan. One nephew Jerry McDaniel and three nieces; Susan Baynard Parton, Rose Ann Beason and Madeline Orr. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at McMahan's. The Funeral Service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 5, 2013 with Rev. Tim Marsh, Rev. Clifford Bradshaw and Rev. Dean Baughn officiating. Interment will be at Rutherfordton City Cemetery with Rev. Allen Marsh officiating.
