Gerald "Jerry" Roswell Cole, 69, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2017. Jerry was the older of the two sons of Rush Cole and Helen Cole of Lenoir, NC. He was born in Rutherfordton, NC on April 17, 1947. He lived most of his life in Lenoir, NC. After earning his Masters of Psychology degree, he became a well-respected psychologist and worked for 30 years in Caldwell and neighboring NC counties, often testifying in court as an expert witness for various domestic abuse and other cases. He had an excellent reputation as counselor for domestic abuse situations in the Foothills Area. He helped take care of his mother after his father's death in 1987 and was a loving son and family man. Jerry is survived by his brother Tim (Greensboro, NC) and two sons, Jesse Cole (of Atlanta, GA with wife Kelly Cole and twin granddaughters Betty Jane Cole and Joey Bea Cole, 16 months) and Josh Cole (of Stamford, CT with wife Kate Cole and granddaughter Falyn Mary Cole, 4 months). Jerry came from a very musical family. Father, Rush Cole played the upright bass during WWII and into his later life. Mother, Helen played the piano for Sunday school and church most of her life. Jerry sang with a rock n roll band called the Dukes in Lenoir and the surrounding area during the 60's. He was a very fun, likeable guy and he loved to get into mischief. He made friends everywhere he went up until the end of his life. Jerry loved outdoors activities. Deep sea fishing was his favorite. He spent most every vacation day he had in the Outer Banks, NC on his boat fishing for Spanish and king mackerel. He took his sons Josh and Jesse camping, backpacking, canoeing, and to the beach at every opportunity as they grew up. He taught them about gardening, survival, hard work, honesty, and how to have a good time. Jerry was very laid back and had a great sense of humor. He lived the last 3 years of his life in Atlanta requiring full time care for Parkinson's disease. He was thrilled to be a larger part of his son Jesse's family's life for this short time, especially during the infancy of his twin granddaughters and they were very happy to have him nearby to spend time together. A celebration memorial will be held in Rutherfordton, NC at 1pm on Monday February 27, 2017 at the Rutherfordton City Cemetery with Reverend Tim Marsh officiating.
We love you, Dad.
