Obituary

Harley Jackson Miller, 90, of Christiansburg Virginia passed away on November 30, 2016 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, after a prolonged illness and a brief stay in hospice care. He was a lifelong member of the Hurricane West Virginia community until moving to Christiansburg for reasons of health in 2010, after which he spent time there and in Rutherfordton under the care of his children. Born March 29, 1926, He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber crew. He retired from Union Carbide after 38 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, having served as both a deacon and then an elder at the Laywell congregation for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo W (Joe) and Dovie Anna Miller, his first wife Gretta (Spears) who died of illness early in their married life, his second wife Leva Jean (Thomasson), who shared his life for 56 years, and brothers Okey Ray Miller and Hubert W. Miller. He is survived by Marsha Lynn Hegeman and husband Dan of Rutherfordton, NC, Michael Miller and wife Leesa of Christiansburg, VA, Anthony (Tony) Miller and wife Zondra of Durham, NC, and Brian Miller and wife Selena of Hurricane, WV. He loved his grandchildren Luke Miller and wife Hannah, Sean Miller and wife Sarah, Jessica Muller and husband Brian, Erik Miller, Lindsey Thompson and husband Brad, Michael Hegeman and wife Amelia, Jenn Hegeman and husband Jamie. He especially delighted in his great-grandchildren, Laureli and Charlie (Tony), Wendy and Rosalyn (Jessica), and Dakota, Colin, Emma, Ronan, Riley and Grayson (Dan & Lynn), and Ben Roberts (Brian and Selena). The family would like to thank so many for their expressions of love and sympathy, and especially for their support of our father during his many trials during these past few years. He left this life for the next, knowing that he was well loved and had made a difference in the lives of those he left behind. Funeral Service will be 2:00 Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Laywell Church of Christ with Minister Wayde Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Sycamore Cemetery.
