Dr. Herman Bruce Norville Sr.,  age 82, of the Green Creek community, died Friday, January 27, 2023, at his home.  He was a native of Rutherford County and son of the late Manley and Nan Guffey Norville.  He dedicated his life to the role of an educator starting his own learning at Spindale Elementary School.  He was a graduate of R S Central High School.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pfeiffer College in 1964, a Master of Arts from Appalachian State University in 1969, an Education Specialist Degree from Appalachian State University in 1976 and a Doctor of Education Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1987.  He played a major part in the Principal's Role in Dropout Prevention.  After retiring from teaching for 30 years in Rutherford County, he taught English at Spartanburg Methodist College.  He was a life long Yankees fan with Mickey Mantle being his favorite player.  The Lone Ranger, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers were his childhood idols.  He was also preceded in death by his sisters; Lois Elizabeth Norville and Dr. Annie Sue Norville McIntire and brothers; Russell Manley Norville, Hicks Edward Norville and Robert Howard Norville.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years; Helen Beaver Norville.

One Daughter: Dana Norville Dedmond and her husband Barnaby Todd Dedmond of Chapin, South Carolina.

One Son: Herman Bruce Norville Jr. of Green Creek.

Two  granddaughters:  Elizabeth Hope Norville and Darby Hudson Dedmond.  Two grandsons: Cody Kistler Dedmond and Damien Luke Dedmond. One great-grandson; Oakley Wren McDowell.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 29, 2023 at McMahan's Funeral Home.  The Funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 29, 2023 with Reverend Buster King officiating. Interment will be at Pores Ford Baptist Church Cemetery,   Memorials may be made to Gideon's International; Rutherfordton Camp; P O Box 1462; Rutherfordton, NC 28139.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
