Jane (Janie) Charlene Hess Putnam was called into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Janie was born in Dayton, OH on May 15, 1947 to Arthur Sedric Hess and Lois Charlene (Tompkins) Hess who preceded her in death. Janie is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, David Reid Putnam. They were married in Charlotte, NC on November 1, 1975, and resided in Jacksonville, FL. Janie's life was defined by her love of Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Rutherfordton, NC for eight years. Her great love was to serve in the ministries of hospitality and outreach with cards and letters while immensely enjoying the worship and music ministry under the pastoral leadership of James Henson and Kevin Bradley. Janie was a living example of generosity to those who were blessed to cross her path. She sacrificially loved others well and provided for many without a thought of personal cost. Janie loved her family supremely. She brought the love of Christ to her family with passion. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Tracy Reid (Putnam) Simpson, and her husband Robert Bernard Simpson of Jacksonville, FL. She was their biggest cheerleader and an ever-ready dispenser of advice and counsel. Janie graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1965 and went on to attend a year of College in Dayton, OH. She had a stellar career working as a toy buyer for a large department store chain, secretary to an Insurance company president, and served as the receptionist/gate keeper for many years at First Baptist Church in downtown Jacksonville FL for Pastors Homer Lindsey and Jerry Vines. She retired to embrace her favorite job as David's wife supporting him in his travels overseas for the Navy and constant encouraging support for her daughter's nursing career.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later in Rutherfordton NC and Jacksonville, FL.

A private interment ceremony will be held with close family and with her pastor, James Henson, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the church she so loved, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 563 Pleasant Hill Church Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
