Janice Thompson Walker, age 81, of Rutherfordton NC passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, August 12th, 2022 at Fair Haven of Bostic.  Born in Polk County to William Wesley Thompson and Arlene Smith.  She married the love of her life, Horace Alexander Walker in 1959 and was a devoted mother, grandmother "Gran Jan" and great-grandmother "Great Gran Jan".

She was a long-time active member of Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church.  She spent her career at Apple Tuck & Associates and as a real estate agent upon retirement.  She loved her church, family, traveling, and gardening.  She would often share fun memories of her Harris High School basketball days and her travels to all 50 states, including zip-lining in Hawaii in her 70's.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, and brother (Arvol Thompson).

She is survived by her daughter Tammy Hunt of Rutherfordton and son Jason Walker (wife Karen) of Fleetwood; grandchildren Justin Whiteside (wife Becky) of Ocean Isle Beach, Bailey Walker, Nina Walker and Luke Walker all of Fleetwood; and great-grandchildren Walker and Maddox Whiteside of Ocean Isle Beach;  her brothers Glenn Thompson (Blanche) and Joel Thompson (Patsy), sister-in law Martha Thompson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to her loving at-home caregivers, the staff at Fair Haven Bostic, and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church.  The memorial service  to follow at 4:00 P.M. with Reverend Dr. James Powell and Reverend Ad Hopper officiating.  The interment will be private for the family.  Memorials may be sent to Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church; 3060 Poors Ford Road; Rutherfordton, NC 28139.    A guest register is available at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com.   McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
