Joan B. Alder, age 83, of Spindale, NC, died Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.

A native of Elbert County Georgia. Joan was the daughter of the late George Welsey Brownlee and the late Marie Brownlee. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Alder, and by several of her siblings.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Rae L.  Lewis, and her sister, Sandra Baird (Joseph).

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The  Funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026 with Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. Private Interment will be at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, NC.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
