John Wesley Lewis, Jr., 76, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

John was born in Greenville, SC and lived in Rutherfordton, NC for 24 years.  He graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC in 1965 and graduated from Presbyterian College in 1969.  He worked for Duke Power in Charlotte and Tryon.  He was also County Manager in Rutherford, Albemarle, and Oxford, NC.  John was the Town Manager in Tryon and Spindale.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton where he was on the Pastor Parrish Committee and a beloved Sunday School teacher for the Garmin Yelton class for many years.  John was a passionate Clemson football fan and loved golf, gardening, coaching both of his boys in sports.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia M. Lewis, and John Wesley Lewis.  He is survived by his boys, John Wesley Lewis III, Miller Atwood Lewis and wife Kelsey and granddaughter Avery, his ex-wife of 34 years, Jana W. Lewis, brother Robert "Bob" M. Lewis, Dr. Virginia G. Lewis, and his long-time companion of 15 years, Ann Almond.

The Funeral Service in memory of John will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 264 N. Main St., Rutherfordton, NC with Reverend Dr. In-Yong Lee officiating.  The reception will be held at his home following the service.
