John Oscar Stofer (Johnny) , age 80, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, June 30, 2023, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, NC.

He was the son of the late Earl Stofer and the late Mattie Haynes Stofer. In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by a brother Mike Stofer.

Johnny was a native of Rutherford County. He worked as an electrician in textiles for many years. He was a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church. He loved to ride motorcycles and did so for most of his adult life.  Johnny was a good man and well  respected by his peers. He loved talking to friends and neighbors and always tried to get a laugh out of them. His humor and laugh will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy  Stofer of 38 years, one daughter, Mary Stofer Guffey and her fiancé Cameron Bradley, two sons, Sammy Dean Stofer and his wife Anita, Kevin Ray Stofer and his wife Priscilla, one stepdaughter, Kathy Washington, one stepson, James Douglas Kirby, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, July 3, 2023, at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at  Piney Knob Baptist Church with Reverend Casey Stockton officiating. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
