On July 1, 2024, while surrounded by her children, Judy Hill Ownbey, 83, entered Heaven's gates. A native of Rutherford County, she was a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church and served as an elementary school cafeteria manager in Rutherford County Schools for 25 years.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Aubrey Ownbey, whom she lovingly and faithfully cared for through his 41-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A devoted mother, Judy is survived by her four children: Joel Ownbey, Bruce (Angie) Ownbey, Lisa (Dale) Brown, and Lori (Landon) Sutton, her seven grandchildren: Ashley Ownbey, Jessica Ownbey, Kevin Brown, Adam (Mary) Brown, Zachary Sutton, Jade Nix, and Tucker Sutton, and her loving siblings: Alice (Mike) Hodge, Norris (Doris) Hill, and Glenda Hill.
While small in stature at just 5' 2", Judy was an incredible and determined force when it came to caring for her loved ones and those around her. When Aubrey could no longer work due to his disability, she left her role of stay-at-home mom and went to work full time in the school system. She did this while raising their four children and caring for her disabled husband. Judy also maintained a catering business on the side to supplement income for her family. She demonstrated to all who knew her what it meant to work hard, be family focused, love those around you, and step up when the circumstances of life demanded it.
Judy loved her church and loved her Lord. Without effort, she embodied all traits of a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs 31: trustworthy, hardworking, caring for others, strong, generous, well-prepared, dignified, wise and kind. Judy's legacy will live on through all who were blessed to know her, especially her children.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, July 5, 2024, at Piney Knob Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Piney Knob Baptist Church at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 5, 2024, with Reverend Michael Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
