June 14, 1926 – December 14, 2020
Kenneth Alvin Harris, age 94, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at Henderson Care Center. He was the son of the late Grady Alonzo Harris and the late Essie Lillian Jones Harris Smith Conner. Ken was a native of Rutherford County and the widower of the late Laura Mae Harris. Ken was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and served in the Philippines. He was in the first group of soldiers to go ashore after the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. In addition to his parents and wife, Ken was also preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Alonzo Harris, three sisters, Beatrice Thompson, Hazel Wilson Duncan, and Aileen Reilly.
Survivors include One Daughter: Judy Harris and her husband Doug Flack.
Two Sons: James Harris and his wife Donna. Keith Harris and his wife Kim
One Brother: David Smith and his wife Katherine.
Six Grandchildren: Christopher Harris and his wife Jessica, Stephen Harris and his wife Kristen, Tyler Harris, Nicole Struble, Jacob Struble, Allison McDade, and her husband James. Four Great-Grandchildren: Penelope Harris, Hunter Harris, Charlotte Harris, and Addison Harris. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Union Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Wayne Toney officiating. The interment will be at Union Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
