Marie Shehan Shook, age 67, of Rutherfordton, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Bryant Martin Shehan and Mary Shehan of Rutherfordton. Marie was a native of Rutherford County and a lifelong active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She played the piano, taught Sunday school, and served on several of the church committees for many years. Marie was a 4th grade school teacher for 29 years in Rutherford County. She knew she wanted to teach the 4th grade since she was in the 4th grade herself. Her students were also her children. Marie always said that she had never had a bad child. She wanted her students to know that she loved each of you. Marie owned and operated the Recliner Center, with her husband JD, since 1986. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her mother, left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 44 years: J D Shook.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, July 24, 2020 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Calvary Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2020 with Reverend Bryan Hardin and Reverend Rick Wall officiating. Marie will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. There will be limited seating at the church. Masks will be required for all services.  Following the funeral service interment will be at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. An online guest register is available at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com.
