IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie (Randall)
Geer
May 22, 1927 – June 19, 2024
Marjorie Ellen Randall Geer
1927 – 2024
Marjorie Ellen Randall Geer ("Margie"), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully passed from earth to heaven at age 97 on June 19, 2024. She was born May 22, 1927 in Rutherford County, NC to Virginia Holland Randall and Clyde Randall, the second of four children.
Margie Geer is survived by her children Bonita Geer Haddock and W. Kent Geer; her daughter-in-law, Laurie Geer; her grandchildren Rich Haddock (wife Kristy Haddock), Melanie Haddock Brocato (husband Brett Brocato), Amanda Geer Hadley (husband Chesson Hadley) and Jake Geer (wife Kathleen Geer) and her ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kent Geer and by her son-in-law, Richard Haddock.
Margie spent most of her life in Rutherford County where she graduated from Tri-High School in 1944. After high school, she entered the U S Army Nursing Corp training program at Rutherford Hospital. Since World War II had ended by the time she graduated as a registered nurse, she was able to put her nursing skills to work in civilian life. She worked for several years at hospitals in Rutherford and Polk counties before ultimately going to work for Dr. Harold Lane, MD as his pediatric nurse in Rutherfordton, a position she held for more than 25 years. Dr. Lane and "Nurse Margie" were beloved by an entire generation of Rutherford County children and their parents for their expert and compassionate health care.
Margie and Kent were devoted parents who placed the needs of their children above their own. She passionately loved children, whether her own, those she nursed or those of other family and friends. While her busy life didn't allow for a lot of free time, she enjoyed baking, crafts, dancing, playing cards and visiting family and friends.
A woman of abiding faith, Margie walked with Christ from an early age. She was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton where she served faithfully. She had the spiritual gift of hospitality and she and Kent regularly entertained friends, family and church groups at their home. Anyone who went to her house never left hungry. Her kindness and care for others was widely appreciated in the Rutherfordton community.
The unquestioned joy of Margie's life was her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted "Mama" and "Mimi" to all of the children and they were a special source of blessing in her life that she wanted to tell everyone about. She spent most of her time in her later years at her much enjoyed condo in North Myrtle Beach and she loved for the children to visit often and enjoy the beach. In her last years, when it was difficult to see everyone as often as she would have liked, she continued to be a prayer warrior on behalf of them all. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by her family and friends.
In celebration of Margie's life, a memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Rutherfordton on Sunday July 21, at 2:30 pm.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton (246 N. Main St., Rutherfordton NC 28139) or to her favorite charitable organization, St. Jude's Children's Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105). McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
