Martha Lane Hopper, age 84, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, May 27, 2011, at her home. A native of McDowell County, She was the daughter of the late Madge Harry Lane and the late Dona Bell Lane. Mrs. Hopper was the widow of the late Barney McKinnley Hopper. She was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her sister Dollie Hargett. She is survived by two daughters, Julie Hopper of Rutherfordton and Yvonne Beam of Forest City; one son, Kenny Hopper of Forest City; five grandchildren Chuck Beam, Amy Rogers, Matt Hopper, Paul Beam, and Joanie Staley and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336 , Forest City, NC 28043. McMahan's Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the Hopper family.
