Obituary

Myra Mailoux was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts on January 10, 1938. She was the daughter of Leo and Rena Mailoux. She attended Syracuse University, where she met her future husband, Charles "Chuck" Stockton. While at Syracuse she major in drama. After graduation she moved up and down the East Coast pursuing her acting dream. Along the way, she married Chuck and as a couple they remained active in the arts. Myra and Chuck Stockton settled in Rutherfordton in 1980 to raise two sons. Beginning in 1989, Myra began teaching at ICC. In 1992, after seeing a need for more teachers at the elementary level, she became an elementary school teacher. Shortly there after she found her true passion of tutoring students with Dyslexia. She honored her calling for tutoring and her passion teaching by establishing a private practice specializing in reading skills. Her connections to families all over Rutherford County gave her a meaningful and lasting connection to the community; a connection she valued until her passing. Myra was preceded in death by her husband Charles Stockton. Myra is survived by her two sons, Sean Stockton and his wife Meg, and Michael Stockton and his wife Brandi, five grandchildren, her sisters Shirley Mailoux Hazeltine and Diane Mailoux Durkee, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved and cherished by many. All services will be private. Those who wish to honor Myra are encouraged to make a contribution to Wounded Warrior in her memory.
