Paris Eugene "Calvin" Powell, age 86, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Mission Hospital McDowell.

He was the son of the late Paris and Gladys Powell, and he was a native of West Virginia. Gene worked at AGI for 39 years and retired as the plant engineer. He loved "lake life" and being on a boat when he could. Gene was also a lover of NASCAR and went to Bristol Motor Speedway every year. He was known for his superb mechanical abilities; he could make and work on just about anything. Gene was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa, he will be greatly missed.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannie Powell, daughter, Sandie Powell Abbey, son, Samuel Eugene Powell, and wife Bonnie, daughter, Deborah Toney, and her husband Dale, eight siblings, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many special friends from Lake James, Lake Murray, and Lake Adger.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, with Reverend Ronald Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
