Ruby Lollar Mathis

Ruby Lollar Mathis of Morganton passed on May 17, 2026, at the age of 99.

She was born on May 14, 1927 to the late Mattie Stimson Lollar and David Lollar.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Omar Mathis; three brothers; and eight sisters.

Ruby Mathis was a caring and devoted woman who loved dancing, walking, and baking cakes for those she loved. She dedicated many years as a registered nurse before retiring from Broughton Hospital in Morganton and the emergency room at Valdese Hospital. Ruby will be remembered for her kind heart, compassionate spirit, and love for caring for others.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son, Mark Mathis; daughter, Deborah Cook; granddaughters, Trisha Smith (spouse, Cynthia Smith), Lisa Setzer (husband, Chris Setzer), and Amanda Petty (husband, Wes Petty); Great grandchildren, Amber Owiesny (husband, Cory Owiesny), Abby Strickland, Jordan Strickland, Kaylee Setzer, Mackenzie Petty, Caleb Petty; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Union Methodist Church cemetery.

The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Burke Hospice and/or North Morganton United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund c/o Ruth Duckworth at 990 Sanford Dr, Morganton NC.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
