Mary "Ruth" Bridges Rogers, aged 97, of Daytona Beach, Florida, formerly of Rutherfordton, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at The Terrace at Bishop's Glen. Born on December 22, 1927, in Shelby, NC, she was the treasured daughter of P. E. and Annie Belle Bridges. She was a devoted wife to Welford L. Rogers and a loving mother to Jimmy, Johnny, and Carol.
Ruth was a graduate of Mars Hill College, a member of the First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton of which she attended for more than 70 years. Throughout her life, Ruth was known for her unwavering kindness, generosity and service. She dedicated her time to genealogical organizations including the Daughters of the Revolution and Colonial Dames. She also enjoyed her many years of active membership in the Rutherfordton Garden Club and Rutherford Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth possessed a warm smile, keen sense of humor, a compassionate heart as well as an overwhelming sense of devotion to her family, faith and helping others.
Ruth was predeceased in death by her cherished husband Welford L. Rogers and her sons James W. And John W. Rogers. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Dan) Shields, 4 granddaughters and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents P. E. Bridges and Annie Belle, Sisters Louise Bridges, Marilyn Craig, JohnnieRae Bridges, Joyce Garner, brothers Sonny Edward Bridges and M. Scott Bridges.
Visitation will begin at 10 am on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at McMahan's Funeral Home followed by her service at the Chapel of McMahan's Funeral Home at 11 am Tuesday April 8, 2025 with Reverend Beth Heffner officiating. Private interment will take place at the Rutherfordton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations can be made to the Senior Adult Ministry of First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, 246 N. Main St. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
