Sarah Genevieve Arrowood, or "Gence" as known by those close to her, passed away in the comfort of her home in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023.

The daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys Koone of Union Mills, Gence was preceded in death by her two siblings, Curtis Dewalt Koone, and Mary Florence Koone Lovelace, both of Union Mills, her husband George Berry "GB" Arrowood, and son Scott Arrowood, also from Union Mills.

Surviving includes her eldest son, Dwayne Keith Arrowood and wife Mollie McFarland Arrowood of Union Mills, 5 grandchildren, Shane Arrowood, Phillip Arrowood, Ryan Arrowood, Aaron Arrowood, and Cody Arrowood, and two great grandchildren, Emerson, and Ryker Arrowood, and one expecting, Nova.

Genevieve attended Shingle Hollow Congressional Holiness Church, where her faith played an important role in her life and interactions with others.  She and her husband GB made their careers in the booming textile industry, and she was never intimated by hard work.  She will be remembered as the matriarch of the Arrowood family, whose relentless independence, opinionated nature, and general stubbornness were second only to the love of her family.  She will be remembered fondly for drinking black coffee at all hours of the day, maintaining a spotless home, her made from scratch meals, and a perfectly manicured lawn.  Genevieve led a long and fulfilled life with a genuine love of family, and a desire to see them happy and successful.  She will forever hold a place in our hearts and minds, and will be missed by all those who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Friday, December 22, 2023 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 22, 2023 with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson, and Reverend Jack Crain officiating.  Interment will be at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church; 2480 Cove Road; Rutherfordton, NC 28139. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
