Obituary

Sharon "Sherry" Morris Hardin died on February 18, 2024.

She was born on March 2, 1952, to Fred Alexander and Mary Ellen Fowler Morris. Sherry was born in the Pea Ridge community of Mill Spring, NC, where she lived her entire life. She was a graduate of Polk Central High School and Central Piedmont Community College. She was a dedicated Dental Hygienist, and she loved each and every one of her patients.

She married Daryl on May 29, 1976, and she gave birth to Mary Ellen on November 27, 1985. She grew up attending Pea Ridge Baptist Church, and after she and Daryl married, she moved her membership to Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church.

Sherry is survived by her beloved husband, W. Daryl Hardin, daughter, Mary Ellen (William) Bartek. Three grandchildren Morris Graham, Walter James, and Josie Anna Bartek, brothers Jack (Mary) Morris, Billy (Linda) Morris, Danny (Cindy) Morris, and sisters Norma (Preston) Bowyer, and Brenda Bean. Sherry was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Trivola "Pat" (Charles) Mathis, nephew, Phillip Morris, nephew, Rene Travieso, great-niece, Clara Travieso, sister-in-law, Wilma Morris, and brother-in-law, John Bean.

As much as Sherry loved Daryl and Mary Ellen, there seemed nothing more joyful in her life than her three grandchildren. She adored them, and they adored their "Queen" in return. They were each blessed to be loved by her.

Sherry will be remembered as the one who gathered her family together. She called, messaged on social media, and sent texts to everyone making sure all knew when and where to gather. She made certain to remind everyone, with great frequency, how important it was to be together and to respect family traditions. Her passion for family and every single person in it will be missed. She loved her family with a ferocity that will never be replaced, but, in her honor, all are charged with the task. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, in-law, and friend, she taught everyone to lead with kindness and love. She was ever loved, and she will be ever missed.

The memorial service will be at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, 252 N. Washington St. Rutherfordton, NC 28139, at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 23, 2024, with Reverend Dr. Donald Scofield. The family will greet friends after the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be private for the family only.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church Choir Fund; P.O. Box 1133 Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
