Thurman Lee Spence, ( Cowboy), age 74, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Accordius Health at Rutherford.

He was born in Wake County but lived most of his life in Rutherford County. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Lee Spence, mother Elizabeth Green Nix, and step father Paul Nix. Thurman was a volunteer fireman for many years, as well as a former Fire Chief of Shingle Hollow Fire Department. He loved to cut up, have fun and joke around. Thurman liked Dale Earnhardt and his Chevy trucks. He worked as a crew leader for Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation for 35 years.

Thurman is survived by one son, Brandon Spence, and special friends, and caregivers, Sammy Stofer (Anita), Mary Stofer Guffey (Cameron Bradley) and Kevin Stofer (Priscilla).

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at McMahan's Funeral Home.  The memorial service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 22, 2021, with Rev. Casey Stockton and Rev Brent Frady officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
