Velma D. Smith, age 80 of Rutherfordton passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Oak Grove Healthcare Center.

Velma was the daughter of the late Arwine and Ella Dalton. She was a native of Rutherford county in later years. She was originally from Cecil county Maryland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Smith. Velma was a member of Wilson Baptist Church. Survivors include her son James Smith and a grandson Jared Smith. The family will have a private graveside service at Wilson Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff of Oak Grove Healthcare Center for the wonderful care they provided to Velma. Interment was at Wilson Baptist Church Cemetery. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
