Walter "Gene" Hancock Sr., age 76, of Union Mills, Gilkey Community, died Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.

He was son of the late Walter Stewart Hancock and the late Marie White and a native of Rutherford County.  Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Conner Hancock, his son Avery S. Hancock and his step-father Roy White.  He was a member of Centennial United Methodist Church.  Gene retired from REMC as a lineman with 33 years of service.  He loved hunting, fishing, country music and Elvis.

One Daughter: Catina  Melton and her husband Mitch.

One Son: Walter E. Hancock Jr., and his wife Janet Rosey.

3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild

The Funeral service will be at Gilkey United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020 with Reverend Jack Bridges officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.  Interment will be at Gilkey United Methodist Church  Cemetery.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.  Condolences at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com
