Wayne Yelton, age 89, of South Main Street; Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home in Rutherfordton, NC. Wayne was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton. Native of Rutherford County. Son of the late Charles and Nora Guffey Yelton. Widower of the late Virginia Garrett Yelton. U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was involved in the Battles of the Bulge and Remaggen Bridge. He received two bronze stars and two purple hearts. He supported many charities. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Wayne was preceded in death by two sons; Wayne William Yelton Jr, and Robert Dean Yelton; also, one brother Leonard Yelton. Yelton, Spindale, NC Two Sisters: Frances Hamrick, Rutherfordton, NC Betty Alexander, Charlotte, NC One Brother: Dr. Ernest Yelton, Rutherfordton, NC 16 Grand Children 11 Great-Grand Children The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday at McMahan's. Funeral service will be at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 17, 2011 with Rev. Ed Hillman officiating. Interment will be at Centennial United Methodist Church Cemetery, Union Mills, NC with Military Honors provided by Rutherford County Honor Guard.
