Wilbert Thomas Hutchins, age 97, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, January 12, 2024, at Fair Haven of Forest City. He was the son of the late James Curtis Hutchins and the late Ina Jane Freeman Hutchins and native of Rutherford County.  Wilbert was preceded in death by his loving wife Genell Horton Hutchins.  He was the oldest member of Brittain Presbyterian Church where he was a devoted member.  Wilbert cherished his family.  After his father died at a young age Wilbert helped his mother raise his brothers.  Wilbert worked his farm and raised poultry many years.  He and Genell loved to go camping in their motorhome and traveled the entire United States several times.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers; James Hutchins, Marvin Hutchins and Jack Hutchins.

He is  survived by one daughter, Wanda Edgerton and her husband Mac, one son, Leonard Hutchins, two brothers, Everett Hutchins, and Reverend George Hutchins, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, January 15, 2024 at McMahan's Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be at Brittain Presbyterian Church at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024 with Dick Hood, Reverend Dr. Ted Grant officiating. Interment will be at Brittain Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Dr. Jim Whitlow officiating,  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Brittain Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund; 129 Griffin Road; Forest City, NC 28043.  McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
