Dr. William F. McBrayer DDS, age 92, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, November 16, 2018, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Matt McBrayer and the late Sally Kate Fisher McBrayer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton and a US Army veteran of WWII. He graduated from R-S Central High School and graduated from Wake Forest University and the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, Maryland. He practiced dentistry in Rutherford County for almost forty years and was a member of the North Carolina Dental Association and the American Dental Association. In the past he had served on the Board of Directors of the First Federal Savings & Loan, was a former president of the Isothermal Dental Society and a member of the Rutherford County Jaycees. He loved to play golf, fish and do anything outdoors at the family home in Lake Lure. William was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by one sister Ann McBrayer Nanney and one brother Matt McBrayer II. He is survived by his wife of sixty three years Peggy Ann Lawing McBrayer. One Daughter: Louisa McBrayer Koken and her husband Robert One Son: William F. McBrayer, Jr. and his wife Milena Five grandchildren: Kate Koken, Anna Koken, William F. McBrayer III, Matthew A. McBrayer and Allison McBrayer. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 with Reverend Dr. Sydnor Thompson III officiating.
