IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilma Jean
Hurst
August 16, 1934 – October 29, 2022
Wilma Jean Hurst
1934 - 2022
Wilma Hurst, 88, went to her heavenly home on October 29, 2022 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her steadfast belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Wilma was born on August 16, 1934 in Lee County VA to the late Sam and Leona Seale, a farmer and school teacher respectively. She was a trusting and compassionate person and her devotion to the Lord Jesus guided her life. She loved to serve others whether at work, as a military wife, or simply to her many friends. She enjoyed keeping up with her friends on social media and was an avid "Words with Friends" player. The "Words" didn't really matter but she enjoyed the fellowship with "Friends" (in truth though, she also liked to win). She always had time for you and she was always eager to offer help. She truly wanted everyone to know the peace and security that she had experienced through accepting the Lord Jesus as her Savior.
Wilma was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her the love of her life, Robert Levi Hurst, on September 12,1951 in Jonesville, VA. Robert and Wilma cherished their 71 years together. As parents, they raised their three children, Eileen, Michael, and Sheila, with love and patience. The family was blessed to travel to many interesting places in Europe and the southeastern US during Robert's 20 year Air Force career. Wilma was both a loving and lovable mother and cherished her time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Together, Wilma and Robert dedicated all of their children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels and to develop their own personal relationships with the Lord. Sadly, Sheila pre-deceased her mother in 2021.
Wilma is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter Eileen and her husband Doyle Henson; her son, Michael and his wife Debra Hurst; 9 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private memorial service to honor Wilma. The family gratefully declines flowers, but prayers, condolences and memories are much appreciated. Donations to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills are appreciated.
