Yvonne "Liz" Annette Mathis Owens, age 71, of Bostic, NC, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC.

A native of Rutherford County, Liz was the daughter of the late Everett Mathis and the late Edith Lovelace Mathis. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. Liz was an extremely dedicated and hard worker, and she loved her family fiercely. In addition to her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wayne Owens, sisters, Poody Stanley, and Letha Scruggs, and her brother, Spencer Lovelace.

Liz is survived by one daughter, Cindy McDaniel, and her husband Todd, one son, Sonny Taylor, and his wife Nicole, one stepdaughter, Stephine Jackson, and her husband Don, sister-in-law, Pat Lovelace, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several, nieces, great nieces, and great-great nieces that were very special to her.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 3:50 PM, Friday, March 10, 2023, at Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. The funeral service will be at Second Baptist Church at 4:00 PM, Friday, March 10, 2023, with Dr. Reverend Keith Stephenson and Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, 191 Green St. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
