Betty Jean (Goforth) Penson

Betty Jean Goforth Penson, 90, of Spindale, NC passed away on October 10, 2023 at Fair Haven of Forest City after a long illness.

A native of Rutherfordton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Hunter and Annette Goforth. She was also preceded in death by her husband and love of her life Bill Penson and by her brother Hunter Goforth, Jr.

Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed travels as a Navy wife. She was an avid golfer and UNC Tar Heel fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Teri Smart and her husband, Stan, her pride and joy, her granddaughter Holly Smith and her husband Jennings, brothers Bob Goforth, John Goforth and his wife Yvonne, and Warren Goforth and his wife Marsha and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. 

The family will receive friends at McMahan's Funeral Home on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM Friday, October 13, 2023 with Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. Entombment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
