Bill McClain Obituary

William "Bill" McClain, age 85, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Ridge Rest Assisted Living Center in Columbus, NC.

Bill was the son of the late Frank Jones Garrison Sr. and the late Nellie Camp Jay and a native of Rutherford County.  He was a U S Army veteran serving from 1955 to 1958 in the 82nd Airborne Division.  He was a member of Saint Francis Episcopal Church.  Bill first retired from Tanner Companies, and then later retired as president of International Technology;  a textile machine sales company that he founded. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John Phillip Jay.  Bill had a passion for bass fishing and spent many days on the lake Santee Cooper.

Survivors include, his wife of 64 years, Gisela Haftl McClain, one daughter, Anita M. Rice, and her husband Ray, one son, Johnny McClain, and his wife Michelle, one sister, Linda Jay Hodge, and four grandsons, Brandon Rice, Cory Rice, Drew McClain, and J. T. McClain.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2022, at McMahan's Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint Francis Episcopal Church; 395 North Main St. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
