TIME HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 2:00pm TUESDAY MAY 16, 2023

Brenda Bumgardner Toms, age 70, of Rutherfordton, NC joined her late husband, Shorty, in their Heavenly Home Friday May 12, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

A native of Rutherford County, Brenda was the daughter of the late A. C. and Blanche Bumgardner. In addition to her parents Brenda was also preceded in death by her husband whom she missed dearly, Shorty Toms, one brother, Bobby Bumgardner, three sisters, Betty Conner, Joann Bridges, and Carolyn Toms. 
Brenda loved attending Holly Springs Baptist Church when she was able. She retired from Watts Regulator company after working over 28 years there. While working at Watts, Brenda also owned and operated Shorty's Car Wash for many years. Some of Brenda's favorite things were to tend to her flowers and yard, to travel, and she especially loved going out to eat with her sister, Donnis. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, her family was her pride and joy. Brenda will be missed by many. 

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Renee Toms Hollifield of Forest City, two sons, Mark Toms of Rutherfordton, and Jeff Toms of Rutherfordton, one sister, Donnis Bumgardner Toms and her husband Larry "Buck" of Forest City, seven grandchildren, Clint Toms, Jared Toms, Ryan Toms, Hannah Hollifield, Cody Hollifield, Chasity Toms, Candice Toms, ten great-grandchildren, Blayne Toms, Cole Toms, Alana Cockran, Alaysia Hill, Asiana Hill, Mason Toms, Lydia Toms, Kellan Toms, Kandon Thompson, and Bentley "Boobie" Cooley, and many nieces, and nephews. 

The family will receive friends Monday May 15, 2023 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at McMahan’s Funeral Home. Brenda will lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service Tuesday at 2:00PM at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Ruppe and Reverend Chad Sisk officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. McMahan’s Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
