Charles "Rick" Lewis

Charles "Rick" Lewis, age 68, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home after a long illness.

Rick was involved in the car business since he was 18, from car detailing to buying and selling until his retirement in 2019. A native of Rutherford County, he graduated from R-S Central High School in 1972, where he lettered in football and baseball. He also won the Boyce P Scruggs Jr Award for football in 1971, an award voted by the players for that year's most valuable player. Rick loved sports, and was a lifelong fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the University of  North Carolina Tar Heels. He shared his love of sports with friends and family, and with the community by coaching basketball at the Spindale House and Little League baseball in Rutherfordton. Rick was also known as an excellent golfer, and was a member and a great supporter of the Rutherfordton Golf Club for many years. Most recently, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and enjoyment of baseball with his granddaughter Madison, and loved watching her softball games. He also enjoyed sharing his love of The Andy Griffith Show with Madison. 
Rick was well known in the community for his kindness and generosity, his sense of humor, and his love of life. He never tried to be anyone but himself, and will be missed by both his family and his many friends. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Charles Lewis. 

Rick is survived by his wife, Linda Draughon Lewis, one son, Charles Ricky Lewis Jr., one daughter, Hayley Elizabeth Lewis (Pejman Hakimi), his mother, Kathleen Black Lewis, one brother Robert Dennis Lewis (Charlene), two grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Hoover, and Sophia Rose Hakimi, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton in the sanctuary. The memorial service will be at Second Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Saturday, August 6, 2022, with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson, and Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
