Dorothy Thompson Key, age 75, of Forest City, died Friday, February 19, 2021 at Mission Hospital Memorial Campus.
She was the daughter of the late Reverend RE Thompson and Margaret Talbert Thompson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Michael David Key.
Dorothy was a native of Rutherford county, but previously lived on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for where she taught social studies for over 30 years. After returning to Rutherfordton, she joined Gilkey United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a great cook, loved to read and enjoyed doing all types of puzzles and playing card games with her family. She taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the church choir.

Dorothy will lie in state Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Gilkey United Methodist Church from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The graveside service will be 3:00 PM Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Gilkey United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Peter Surran officiating. Interment will be at Gilkey United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Gilkey United Methodist Church 108 Aydlotte Rd Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.
