Dorothy “Dot” Bates Hyder, age 91, of Green Hill, NC passed away November 6, 2021, at Lynn’s Homes at Riverside in Raleigh, NC after a 10-year battle with dementia.
She was born May 23rd, 1930, to the late William Frank Bates and Lula Bell Walker Bates. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Worth Theodore Hyder, Jr., sister Dorliss Gallion and a infant sister and brother Norris Bates.
She is survived by her son, David Worth Hyder and his wife Pauline Camp Hyder, and her daughter, Deborah Hyder McSwain and her husband Michael Hampton McSwain, as well as a step-grandson, Michael McSwain and her sister-in-law, Ruth Hyder Marshall of Milledgeville, GA.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing and went on to teach nursing at Isothermal Community College. She grew up on a farm and after her nursing adventures returned to her farming roots which allowed her to focus on her true mission in life which was caring for the land and others. She was a member of the Mount Hebron United Methodist Church but attended Green Hill and Mountain Creek Baptist Churches.
There will be a graveside service at Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 3PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, with Reverend Billy Honeycutt officiating. The family will greet friends after the service.
