Dustin Leron Edgerton, age 34, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.
Dustin was a native of Rutherford County and the son of Rex Edgerton and the late Rosa Brackett Edgerton. In addition to his mother, Dustin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Darl and Marie Brackett, and his paternal grandmother, Annie Hooper Whiteside. Dustin was an incredibly hard-working man. He enjoyed working, motorcycle riding, and he loved hanging out with his children, family and friends. Dustin has had many friends share stories about him and the impact he left on them. One post the family wanted to share for his obituary is by Eddie Jolley, they all said it sums him up as a person, it is pasted below.
"Several years ago, I drove a truck home from work. Stopping in Forest City to buy gas, getting back in truck Nothing. Seeing I had problems this guy comes over to give me a hand. Introducing myself he says I know who you are, I’m Dustin Edgerton let’s get this thing going. Finally, we decide the starter is out . Seven o’clock and no shoppes open I figure I’ll just have it hauled to Cowpens. Find one and I’ll put it on for you. Calling a car parts I find one. I’ll run to get it for you. Handing him all I had two one hundred dollar bills he and a small kid drive off. Waiting longer than I expected I got to thinking, you’re dumber than a box of rocks. You just gave a total stranger two hundred dollars, and you’re probably never see him again. To my surprise a short time later he’s back, not only with my starter but he had shopped around and saved me 20 dollars. Laying flat of his back he crawled under the truck and got me going . Dirty and tired I ask what I owed him, with a smile on his face "Nothing, I’m glad I could help". Well, I made him take the money anyway but I not only got my truck fixed I made a friend that day. Every time we met we always hugged. When I found out I had cancer Dustin called checking on me, later he found out he had it. He was a family man, a Brother to many and just a good guy. He earned my Respect and I would have gladly traded places with him. RIP my young Brother. I’ll catch you down the road."
