Hal Douglas Smith, age 80, of Bat Cave, NC, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Rutherford County on April 23, 1937 to the late Joseph Ralph Smith and the late Tincilla Myrtle Cole Smith. Hal retired as Director of Social Services for Cleveland County in Shelby, NC after 32 years of service. A lover of the mountains he built himself a home on top of one after retirement near Bat Cave, NC. Hal was a U.S. Army Reserve Veteran.
