Harold Thompson, age 91, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Hospice House of Rutherford County. He was affectionately known as "Timer" to his loved ones. He was the son of the late W. R. Thompson and the late Mary Clay Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife his of 61 years : Christine Thompson. Two Sons: Dr. William "Bill" Thompson and his wife Vickie of Rutherfordton, NC Chris Thompson and his wife Vickie of Charlotte , NC Four Grandchildren: Courtney Thompson Bullard and husband Kyle, Will Thompson, Drew Thompson and Bryce Thompson. Harold was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton where he was active in his Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a registered professional engineer. He was retired from the N. C. Department of Transportation after 25 years of service. He went to work with Thompson Contractors in January of 1974 and retired in December of 2000. He was on the planning board of Rutherford County for several years and was a former member of the Rutherfordton Kiwanis Club."Timer" dearly loved his family and was known to support his grandchildren in all their activities. Also, he was an avid golfer . The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The Memorial service will be at First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton at 3:00 PM, Friday, September 30, 2016 with Reverend Tim Marsh and Reverend Dean Baughn officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, building fund; P O Box 839; Rutherfordton NC 28139.
